Breaking Barriers follows Svetlana Moshkovich, a paraplegic professional athlete, across a single year of her life. Rather than focusing on sport, the film shows how she manages her life.
Breaking Barriers is an 82-minute observational documentary produced by Offgrid Pictures, a Vienna-based production company dedicated to creating visual cross-sections of society. We believe in authentic, unfiltered, and true to life storytelling.
Shot in close observational proximity, the film moves through seasons of training, tenderness, and daily life, with the loving relationship between Svetlana and her partner Andrea at its core.
Our approach as filmmakers is one of restraint and proximity. We do not interpret. We observe. The result is a film that refuses sentimentality while remaining deeply human — a portrait of a person who meets the world with uncommon joy, and whose story illuminates themes of inclusion, love, friendship, and the value of life.
Breaking Barriers is currently seeking its world premiere. The film was shot in Austria, Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland and is produced in both German and English. It is technically delivered as a 4K DCP and is available with English subtitles.
